West Riding of Yorkshire Flag
The West Riding of Yorkshire Flag
The West Riding county flag features the St George’s Cross, the symbol of England, with the cross offset which is typical of Nordic countries and symbolises the Nordic-Scandinavian heritage of Yorkshire. Central to the cross is a blazing sun and a white rose known as a “rose-en-soleil” representing the sunburst emblem of Richard II and the white rose of Yorkshire, a combination first used by Edward IV.
The design was chosen by the public in 2013.
